What Is It and How To Find Ring Size?

Ring size is a measurement of the size of a person's finger, normally the circumference of the finger. This measurement is extremely useful when shopping for that perfect ring. It is much easier to find the perfect fitting ring if you have an exact measurement.

Here are a few different ways how to find ring size at home. To find a ring size easily, you will need a few items. First, you need a piece of yarn or string. Next, you need a pen or a marker, we would recommend a permanent marker as this will make the line easier to see. Take the string or yarn and wrap it around the ring finger (if you are looking to find a ring for a different finger, wrap the string around the finger that you want to put a ring on). At the point where the string or yarn meets itself and forms a complete circle, mark this point with the marker or pen.

Next, take a tape measure or ruler and measure the string until the line that has previously been marked. You want to measure the string in Millimeters or Inches. Once you have this measurement, you want to find the ring size that has a circumference that is the closest to the one that you measured. 



The second way to measure ring size is with our printable ring sizing chart. This method has similar steps to the method above. The steps to finding your ring size are detailed on the printable sheet. When printing off our ring sizing chart, make sure that the “Scale to fit page” checkbox is unchecked. If you are trying to find a ring size discreetly, borrow a ring from the person you are trying to buy a ring for and repeat the process above but use the inner ring circumference instead of the person's finger.

Tips and Tricks When Finding Your Ring Size At-Home

• Our dominant hand tends to be slightly larger than our non-dominant hand. If you plan on putting your new ring on your non-dominant hand, be sure to measure the finger from your non-dominant hand that you would like to place it on. If you want to put your new ring on your dominant hand, make sure you measure the finger that you want to place it on from your dominant hand. 
• Body temperature can dramatically affect the ring sizing process. A finger that is too cold will shrink. A finger that is too warm may expand. Be wary of measurements taken when the hand is too warm or cold.
• As the day goes on your hand may change slightly in size. The best time to measure ring size is toward the end of the day.
• If the knuckle is slightly larger than the base of the finger, take two measurements. One around the knuckle and the other around the base of the finger. Once you have the two measurements choose a ring size that is in between the two measurements. For instance, if the knuckle is measured to be a ring size 10 and the base of the finger is measured to be a ring size of 9, go with a 9.5 ring size. This will allow the ring to fit over the knuckle but will also sit well on the base of the finger.
• The wider the band the tighter it will fit. When finding ring size, keep in mind the width of the band that you are considering buying. Make sure that if you are secretly trying to find someone's ring size, you should try and use the same or similar width of ring based on the width of the ring that you are going to buy.
